Cherry Blossom Care: Understanding The Basics

When I bought a house with a cherry blossom tree in the front yard, I couldn't wait for that first blooming season to see the tree fill out. I knew that the tree needed care, but I wasn't sure how I was supposed to treat it. I called my local tree service and had them show me what it needed to keep it strong. I took all of the information they shared with me and everything else I've learned and created this site. I hope that the information here helps you take care of your blossoming trees so that you can enjoy their beauty every season.

Trees can be something people take for granted. They are an important part of most landscapes and taking them for granted can directly lead to neglect. Neglect of trees can then lead to many different problems. Once you learn about some of the many important reasons for staying on top of the trimming of your trees, you can prevent a lot of problems and enjoy the many benefits of having trees that are properly maintained.

Trimming and pruning are often used interchangeably

The terms 'trimming' and 'pruning' are often used interchangeably. If you are being technical, then trimming refers to cutting the overgrown parts of a tree back. Pruning, however, refers to the removal of loose, dead, or otherwise problematic branches. So, when you are discussing the care of your trees, keep the differences of these terms in mind so you know you are discussing the proper job you want to have done.

Prevent branches from becoming dangerous

If you are worried about a dead, dying, or damaged branch falling and causing damage to anything in the yard, or injuring someone who may be in its path when it falls, then you should have the branch taken care of as soon as possible. It is important to note that when one branch is concerning to you, then there may be others. As such, it's a good idea to have the whole tree looked over as well.

Keep the yard looking good

If you don't spend a lot of time walking around your property, then you might not see if some of your trees are getting out of control. If you are someone who doesn't check on the condition of your trees often, then you should be having someone else come out and care for them regularly. They can be your first line of defense in making sure your trees not only look good but that they are also healthy.

Guide the trees to grow how you want

When you have the trees in your yard carefully maintained, you can help them to grow in a way you want. For example, if you have a number of trees in relatively close proximity to one another, then you want each tree to grow straight and you want to make sure the branches from one don't grow into the branches of another.
